What is a graphic novel?
There are many definitions of what a graphic novel is. What they all have in common is this: a graphic novel
is a full-length story told in paneled, sequential, graphic format. Graphic novels are a format, not a genre.
There are graphic novels that fit into every genre and sub-genre of literature.
What a graphic novel is NOT:
A graphic novel is NOT a comic book. A comic book itself does not present a complete story arc.
The Peanuts, the Farside, Outland, and most Garfield (exceptions Holiday specials) are not graphic novels
even when presented in a collection because they do not represent a full-length story.
A graphic novel is not an illustrated book like The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
The word "graphic" does not refer to adult material, though may certainly contain adult material.
